1.7 to 1.9.4.2 upgrade fails to load home page

I've been working on upgrading several 1.6.6 and a 1.7 version to the latest. So far so good.... sort of.

I first verified that my 1.6.6 and 1.7 versions were operating as expected. (These installations anyway.) And my upgrade of the 1.6.6. version to 1.9.4.2 seems to be fine. However using the same procedure for the 1.7 version didn't work. This is what I did in both cases.

1. Logged out of admin (not sure that matters)

• Extracted the base 1.9.4.2 system over top of the existing systems

• logged in to admin and clicked continue until it was done.

In both instances everything completed as as mentioned the 1.6.6. upgrade seems to work fine.

However the 1.7 upgrade won't load. I just get a "loading" message in the browser. But I can access the admin page and if I go to global settings and change the site to maintenance mode then when accessing the page it loads as expected with the maintenance message. Then returning to the admin page and clearing the maintenance check box reverts back to the same never loading situation.

The other difference of these two systems is that the original 1.6.6 version was accessed via a domain and the 1.7 was a subdomain but as mentioned they both worked fine as 1.6.6 and 1.7 now only the 1.6.6 upgraded version works.

Stumped.

Step 3 doesn't really sound right to me.

Did you run the 'install/upgrade.php' script?

Thanks. I thought (think) that admin auto-magically runs upgrade if it sees a new installation. At least the same 7 steps happened. What I did (just now) is ran upgrade.php and if quickly went through the steps showing the schema etc was already up to date but I get the same result. I guess I can unwind back to 1.7 and try upgrade.php directly. As mentioned my 1.6.6 upgrade when fine (in this instance but I'm having problems in another) but this 1.7 instance is a problem the only difference of course is that its 1.7 and not 1.6.6 and is a subdomain (which I can't see should be a problem. It wasn't as 1.7.) I'll keep plugging away at it.

Yes I am running 1.7 again and working on the my smf upgrade just now.
