Cataloger - Show items user defined field on category page

I have a site that would like to have the normal CSS category page layout, showing an items thumbnail with the page title next to it, but they would like a one line description by each item along with the title.  I know there has to be a way to do this but I can't find anything that works.  Could someone please enlighten me
