Default search module (1.0.3) and inactive pages

I have 1.0.3 installed, and was testing the default search module. The docs say it won't search inactive pages.

It certainly does! The search result links for inactive pages can't find the page, just as you'd expect.

Inactive pages simply shouldn't be searched. Is there a fix or work-around? I can tweak the PHP, but don't want to re-invent the wheel.

Sorry if this was already covered in another post or thread. I searched, and was unable to find anything.
