Installing Module - Permissions

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

Installing Module - Permissions

Post by slloyd »

I would love to be able to install just one darn module!!!

I tried installing the Chat module and I got this error message:
Could not create a file (permissions problem?) /var/www/vhosts/preschoolrock.com/subdomains/riddles/httpdocs/modules/Chat/_chatengine.php
I changed the permission to the modules folder. Do I need to chmod to 777 for every folder up to and including that module? Is that the problem?

This seems like such an easy thing to do, but I can't seem to figure it out. Help!

You can try to upload it via FTP too  ;D.

Well, I tried that and it still didn't work. I FTP it to the Modules folder, but it doesn't show when I go to Extensions > Modules. What am I doing wrong?

Is there no one out there that can help me with installing a module? I'd really like to be able to use all the great modules that have been created, but I can't seem to get even one to install. I keep getting a permissions error. The Modules folder is set to 777. I tried uploading through the cms, like the instructions say to do, but I get a permissions error.

When I upload the file in Plesk, it doesn't show up in the cms. Same with when I try to FTP it.

I'm using the latest version of cmsms and I've tried many different modules.

dont know if this will work or not, but its worth a try.

Upload your module using FTP.

Chmod the folders to 755.

And check if you files in the folders are chmodded 644.

I had this problem on a server when i uploaded a module, folders where chmodded to 751 and the files where chmodded to 640.

So if you have the same issue, chmod folder to 755, and filles to 644.

hope this works

It didn't work. The folder was already set to 755 and the file to 644, although shouldn't the file be IN the folder? I uploaded the Chat module and the file isn't IN the Chat folder.

It doesn't show up in the cms and it won't allow me to upload it through the cms. I still get the permissions error. Do I need to set the Chat file and folder to 777? ARRRRRRRRRRRGH! This is so frustrating!!!!! >:(

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Hi Slloyd

Were you able to find an answer ?? I sure can't get an answer from anyone. I have the same problem. Even my host can't find a solution.

Herb.

I'd prefer not disclose that here in case it makes them look bad. If it would help with solving my problem I'd be glad to PM.
