General CMSMS Questions

Post by funnytiger »

Greetings!  ;)

I have a few questions about CMSMS after having successfully installed it and set up a template (using CSS and HTML) for my home page. You would think if I could get that far I wouldn't be having so much trouble with the rest of it, huh?  :-\

Modules and Tags -- I understand that you designate certain areas of your templates to contain information based on the use of module and tags. I am having a hard time understanding how I define the parameters to my modules or tags.

Forum -- I noticed that there is a forum module that you can use. Are these boards an example of that forum? Or am I misunderstanding what the purpose of the forum module is?

What would be a reason to use a user group and do I have to use one at all?

I am sure I will have more questions. Actually, I am positive I will have more questions.

Thanks in advance!

modules and tags: modules are configured in the Module admin section in the Admin panel; tag parameters are added to the tag Smarty tag in the page or template  (see the Module or Tag help for more info)

forum - don't have a clue

I assume you're talking about User Groups in the Admin area.  No, you don't have to use one at all, especially if you're the only editor/designer.  Groups and Users are used to allow the administrator to give certain admin rights to certain users or groups (editing content, editing design, module administration, etc.)  Essentially, you create a group, assign rights to that group, and assign users to that group.  Then all users within a certain group have the rights you assigned to that group.  As admin, you have all rights by default, and you don't need to assign yourself to any groups.
