Upgrade Help! SOS

I cant for the life of me upgrade my .13 to 1.0.2. I am using a MAC server and dont understand if I am to upload or over-write my current folders with new ones, wont my images folder and etc. get over-write with blank folders with no images in them? I try to over write my current folders and get errors when i try to copy the uploads folder and the tmp folders, says i dont have the correct permissions to do this. I have full admin access.

Are the steps I am doign right? I over-write my current 20 folders with the new downloaded 20 folders, then go to my site's address and /upgrade?

Things in image folders will not be touched, it will only overwrite existing files, folders are just the container the files go in and since it's not looking for new things you put in after the initial install, 0.13, it will only replace files needed for upgrading...

if you know what I mean...
