installing core

I'm a basic user trying to use this for the first time -trying to get at my install but am getting this message when I go to my web site:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /tmp/pharextract/cmsms-2.2.5-install.php/index.php on line 6

what have I done wrong?

Difficult to say given lack of full info.
Are you trying to access front end or the admin area?
Were you part way through an install or update when something went wrong? Give details if so.
What were you doing (or trying to do) before it all went wrong?
Share the URL if you can.

I had downloaded the zipped file from the download site, copied it to my web host, unzipped it and used my browser to go to
"my web directory/cmsms-2.2.5-install.php"
I got the message in my question.
does that give you enough info to help?

I would double check that your host meets all the requirements listed here, particularly note the PHAR library is required:

I'll check - but a colleague who uses the same host is using cmsms successfully
