New Web Admin

Post by VSiekman »

I have recently taken over the updating of my employer's website which has not been tended to in a very long time. I have do have some basic IT/website experience in the past but am still learning as I go. I have been able to work my way through and figure out most aspects of the Admin module so far to achieve my tasks. However I am now attempting to change the theme template and need some advice. The CMS version we currently have is 1.10. And according to the template upload instructions I need to access the theme manager which is not an option within the admin module. While searching for information I have found the CMS upgrades for 2.x. Am I correct in assuming that I probably need to perform an upgrade in order to be able to access the theme manager. Also if you could advise if there is any other software that I may also need to have installed I would greatly appreciate any assistance at all. I am currently coordinating the website changes from my laptop using Windows 10 and accessing the site through Google Chrome if either of these make a difference. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

You don't need to upgrade to 2.x to get to the theme manager - in fact, there is no theme manager in 2.x (It's been replaced by Design Manager).

In 1.x, theme manager was for importing and exporting themes, not for editing them. If you want to make changes to templates, it's under Layout > Templates.

That said, support for the 1.x series has long since past, so if you need any help then I'd strongly suggest upgrading first. We have archived the documentation for 1.x (docs1.cmsmadesimple.org).

Thank you for the information. When I am logged into CMS I do not have an option at all for layout or theme or design managers either for that matter. I have tried uploading the theme manager to see if that would work but I cannot get it past uploading it to the file manager on CMS. I am trying to upgrade our version now instead but I am experiencing difficulties here as well. I keep seeing instructions for database files and server files which I do not have access to. And so I am at a loss at the moment. I'm sure there is something that I am missing. Is there possibly a tech phone number that I could call to be able to better explain and receive some walk-through assistance in these changes. Thank you in advance!

It sounds like you don't have full admin access to the backend, and are mostly likely just using a content editor account.

Without an admin account, or access to the database, there's nothing further you can do. If you can obtain this information, paid support is available at https://www.cmsmadesimple.org/support/hire-a-dev/
