Updated Babel module for CMSMS 2.x

Post by pschoenb »

Hello,

since my site heavily relies on it, I made the Babel module working with CMSMS 2.x again.

Officially, this module seems to be no longer maintained. Still, it is a great module, and I am sure that I am not the only user. :)

Is there a way to contribute my changes without the obligation of becoming the new maintainer (too less time, and too less PHP experience)?
Regards,
Patrick

I offered myself to be a part of the development team of babel and did some work on it (I believe last commits on SVN are still mine, but didn't check again). I have sent a few emails a year ago to the administrator of the project and main developer, as he is atm the only one who can manage releases, in order to get the updates I had contributed into a release, which is something that my current role in the babel project doesn't allow me to. Since I had no replies, I have forked the module and have been working on it. My module is not yet ready for release because there are a few things I want to change and make differently. Will do a release soon.
However the module can only be managed by it's developer(s) with the role of administrators on the forge. So, to answer your question: your only options (as was mine too) are either to fork the module or offer the changes in documented bug reports. You cannot take over the module unless the current project administrator accepts it, and the other option (to actually fill bug reports with the patches to the code in the hope they may be accepted) seems to be a waste of time... but you can always try.
My fork will be released soon, I just didn't have much time to devote to it lately.
Hope this answers your question.
