Help with Theme

Post by BigBerre »

Hi All,

I'm pretty new to CMS and I'm still looking for a nice theme for my website.

I would like to know if a theme like this site (http://www.wix.com/website-template/vie ... s.comtemp2) would be possible to create? And difficult? I don't need the top white border and the picture cycle I can do with the Gallery module. So basically just the black border and menu or tab-style at the botton and the logo in the middle part/left.
Would that be difficult to create? Anybody could point me out? Or help?

Thanks in advance!

You can convert almost every template to work with cmsms, please see http://docs.cmsmadesimple.org/layout/ba ... e-template

staartmees, that means I should take the source code of the webpage I want and start replacing where needed. Would that be the way to go?

paulbaker, I use the Gallery mod with the cycle function now for image sliding. What is the difference between the showtime mod and the gallery mod?

I also noticed, on the original page when you click on the menu the pages like fade into each other. I suppose this is doable with css too?

straatmees, is there any easy way to develop a theme? Should I create the theme, import it in CMS, if it's not good, change a little bit and import again. I mean isn't there a better way to develop themes?

I have checked the source but for me this is nearly impossible. It's full of javascript code and stuff like that, so very difficult to extract or find the corresponding blocks.

I have found a better url that shows the page like I want it. http://www.wix.com/demone2/photo-focus-html

I have never used the cycle function in Gallery, so if you're happy with it then leave as is. Showtime is an image gallery viewer with options like slide effects, text overlay etc.

If you know the basics of html-templates and have knowledge of css, you can take a basic template, http://docs.cmsmadesimple.org/layout/ba ... e-template or http://docs.cmsmadesimple.org/layout/ba ... e-template or http://docs.cmsmadesimple.org/layout/ex ... e-template and adapt it to your needs;

I learned it by taking one the templates that comes with your cmsms-installation and playing with the stylesheet.

Hi,

I managed to create the theme and stylesheet and even the menu part with the menu manager and template things. Looks very nice, it took me some time to get into it, but once you got the hang it's 'easy' :)

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
