[solved] TinyMCE not working

Post by gocreative »

We have a site where TinyMCE doesn't load; all textareas in the site, including in modules, show plain text only.

The really strange thing is that we backed up and duplicated the site just yesterday, and everything was working fine (including in the duplicate). Both sites are hosted on the same server.

As of today, without making any changes to the original site, it seemed to suddenly stop working. We've reinstalled TinyMCE multiple times, changed various settings in the module and CMSMS, tested in multiple browsers, and so on.

We also changed the TinyMCE option to use a static file. That didn't fix the problem, but the WYSIWYG functionality worked when unchecking the 'Use WYSIWYG editor' option (i.e. the checkbox worked in reverse to how it should).

We have cleared the cache via admin as well as FTP.

Lastly, we have restored our backup but the problem remains, which makes it seem that the error is specific to this site somehow.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! We are also happy to pay for support.

Could you please post system info?

Maybe I'm wrong but this may be related: open basedir active.

No, the setting is the same on both sites and the other one works. I also tried disabling that just now, with no change.

Another weird thing: It all works fine on my Android phone in Chrome. But not in any browser on a PC.

I've had this many times with TinyMCE and then it has started working as it should. Why I'm not sure could be browser cache.

Hey Peter. You could be right, since it works on mobile. I'll play around with the browser cache and see what I can uncover. Cheers for the tip.

It was indeed a browser cache issue, though changing any TinyMCE setting presents the problem again. Hopefully this post helps anyone else having the issue because I couldn't find anything else online that worked.

Thanks again for the replies!

Please note that it cannot be a browser cache issue if the page is reloaded. This problem still exists for me.

It was a browser cache issue in the short term, but eventually the problem just went away and hasn't returned.

Thanks, gocreative.

That's sort of like the inverse of my experience, where the problem just came out of nowhere, but hasn't gone away.

You are lucky.

It came out of nowhere for me, too. I think it fixed itself within a few days or a week, so hopefully you have the same luck!

When you are editing a page do a super reload i.e. shift + refresh.

Thanks, but that didn't work either.
