Upgrading original Calendar events to CGCalendar

So, I have quite an old site that I'm working on, and the Calendar module's recurring events broke. Since this is such and old module and there's no support for it, I'm thinking I'll just upgrade to CGCalendar and kill two birds with one stone. I'm aware that the description of CGCalendar specifically says "This module is in no way compatible with the original Calendar module, and in no way should you try to convert data or templates from one to the other", but I want to do exactly that. The table structures seems almost identical. Has anybody had any experience doing this? Or does it seems impossible?

No, it's not identical (some more columns) - have tried it some times ago.
