PHP 5.2.17 was released in January of 2011. Over 3 years ago.

Most (good) hosts these days support newer versions of PHP and MySQL. Often it is as simple as adjusting a setting in your control panel or a line in a .htaccess file.

You should probably contact your host to see if this is possible with them. If it is not, consider moving hosts to one that supports newer software.
