Setting up CGTweet

Post by gstalnaker »

Attempting to install, configure and use CGTweet, but after many hours without success.

It seems that Twitter has recently modified their API to favor OAuth 1.1. I have been unable to create the Access Tokens for the Twitter application the CGTweet Settings say I must have. All queries for how to do this reference a Generate button/link that should appear on my app management page but which does not appear (even the page that loads when I click on TestOAuth button references says "For your convenience, we give you the opportunity to create your OAuth access token on your application details page." yet there is no such thing).

The Setttings for CGTweet says, "A user access token, and token secret are needed in order to send status updates etc. You can obtain these directly from twitter, or use the "Authorize via Twitter" link below." Yet clicking on this link produces an error: Error connecting or authenticating to twitter services

I'm at an impasse. I cannot discover a way to create/get the Access Tokens. If anyone has been able to do this I would very much appreciate some help.

I thank you both for replying -- unfortunately, the post by scooper which gave a solution no longer exists. paulbaker - you were the person for whom scooper posted the reply. Do you recall what the solution was?

I can't recall the code changes - and if I posted it here it would be deleted anyway.

In any case, the current version of TweetMadeSimple (2.0.2) works for me
http://dev.cmsmadesimple.org/projects/twitter

And I'll bet Calguy's CGTweet tweet works fine too (but I haven't tried it (yet)).

For any of the tweeting modules you'll need those secret codes. They're a pain to get but just remember you'll only have to do it once. ;D

Sign out of all Twitter accounts you have.
Visit https://apps.twitter.com/ and login.
Click Create new app and go from there.
