[Solved- use CD] Module to categorise more than 200 stores?

Post by pwg »

Hi,

I'm looking for a module to display a listing of company stores, with some basic details (address, phone etc) and a link to a Google Map.

Module doesn't need to have a detail page - all info can be in summary section.

There will be more than 200 stores listed, in 3 categories over 7 regions.

Any suggestions on the best module to use?

I was looking at Company Directory, but am having trouble getting it to play nice.

Thanks for any help.

Cheers,

Paul

Thanks for the reply and link Rolf, as to what's not working, I'm not actually sure. That's part of the problem.

One difference I can see between the Tube site you posted and one I need to build is the extra search string needed.

I need to allow for 3 types of stores, across 7 or 8 regions, searchable both ways, and without one variable.

I posted on the Help Wanted board, and am working with one of members on a paid gig to sort out the issues.

I am a bit surprised as a basic eComerce module can search across size and type, but again, I may have just been setting up the company director module incorrectly.

Thanks again.

All companies view in parent page:
http://buispost.eu/remaining-information/suppliers

Category country view in subpage:
http://buispost.eu/remaining-informatio ... rs/germany

Company detail view:
http://buispost.eu/remaining-informatio ... g-rohrpost

Company Directory is a flexible module. Try it some more, I am sure you will manage using it!

Hey Rolf, I'm sure you are right, but aren't you just showing me a list view (overall), a category view (for you, region) and a (single item) detail view?

With the site I'm building (slowly) I also need to be able to search by type of business, as well as overall, region and single item.

I assume this is possible, but I am having problems with it.

As is the person I engaged from here to help.

Thanks however for the post, I'm sure - well, very hopeful - we will get it eventually.

Cheers,

Paul

Uhm what about adding tags? This tutorial is written for cgblog, but I also used it for Products module. For sure you can tweak it for CD, it isnt that complex...

CompanyDirectory supports this easily.

Use the Hierarchy for 'regions' (then you could even do sub-regions). i.e: countries >> states. An entry can belong in only one place in the hierarchy.

Then you can use 'categories' for areas of service, i.e: (auto shops)
- Tire Work
- AutoBody (Paint Bay)
- Repair work
- Exhaust Service
- Towing

Thanks, calguy1000, we have made it work without using the Hierarchy, but I'm sure it made a lot more complications than necessary.

Thanks again, I may have another look at it, and do it as you suggested.

Postscript.

I am an idiot.

calguy1000, I certainly owe you one. Hierarchy. Obvious, and so easy to implement. D'Oh.

I've just redone the last two days work in an hour or so. Seems to work better, and be more efficient.

Thank you.
