[Solved]Frequency of upgrading

Post by jasnick »

How do others cope with frequent upgrades? I currently have 25-30 sites using CMSMS and it seems I have no sooner finished upgrading them when another upgrade comes along.

As I always change the name of the Admin dir when finished, it means I have to change it back before doing each upgrade which adds to the time required.

I finally finished upgrading all old sites to 1.11.5 and now am faced with 1.11.6 and 1.11.7.

CMSMS 2.0 is in the wings so I am wondering if it is worth spending the time at the moment doing upgrades?

What is the purpose of this question? Do we have to feel sorry for you?
Diff upgrades are as easy as can be. I did a dozen sites in half an hour. You don't need to change back admin directory names for a Diff-upgrade. Just copy the files and you're fine.

Are you in a bad mood or something? It was a serious question - I was wondering how other designers tackled this issue.

I upgrade via Softaculous from my cPanel - I install this way too.

If you read the announcements and the changelog you can decide for your websites if and when you upgrade. The last were security releases so you need to upgrade! But if we get lets say tomorrow another report we are gonna fix it and cut another release. No question about that. Safety has prio 1

Thanks Rolf - yes, I did notice they were security releases and therefore important to do. I do appreciate the work that goes into these new versions - I was just wondering how urgent they are but you have certainly answered my question. Thanks.

Just remember. If you decide you don't want to upgrade your sites don't come asking for support. We support only the last 2 versions. We don't have the time or energy to be diagnosing and coming up with fixes for problems for hundreds or thousands of people who don't have the time or energy to upgrade their sites.

I wouldn't dream of asking for support for old versions and always list the version I am using when I post.

I'll mark this post solved as it seems to be a very touchy subject.
