News Module - Field Definition - Quick Question

I'm using CMSMS 1.115 and just created a field definition within News that is called "extrasummary". The field type is Text Area. I am now trying to display the field defnintion in a Summary Template but it keeps showing up as a blank space.

Here is the code I am using in my Summary Template...

{$entry->fieldsbyname.extrasummary->value}

Am I missing something ? I read other posts in the forum and I believe that this should work. Please help!

Did you check the 'public' button when creating the field def?

THANKS ! That was it all along. I overlooked that checkbox. The new IE 10 update does a good job of making checkboxes look strange
