Missing images uploaded using Image Manager?

Post by grid24 »

Here's an odd thing - I wonder if anyone can help?

I recently did a major update of my website and uploaded a load of new images using 'Image Manager'.

The pages were created/modified and all seemed to look and work OK.

However, on reviewing my site on another computer a few days later, most of the new images were missing.

I looked at the files under 'Image Manager' and, indeed, the new images were not there. However, when I looked under 'File Manager', they were there but listed with the file size 0k!

Logging-in using an FTP agent, I could see the files but if I tried to view them using the absolute URL, I got the 'Forbidden' message even though the files were 644 and in a public directory.

I have worked around the problem by deleting the files using the FTP software and re-uploading them (I wasn't able to 'Overwrite' the existing files, but was allowed to delete them).

Does anyone know what happened and how can I avoid this happening again? Or should I just use 'File Manager' for all uploads in the future?

I quit using Image manager years ago, File Manager is the way to go, most likely some kind of "file owner" problem...

Could be you temporarily ran out of disc quota? Sure I have seen something like that before. Agree with Dr.CSS, use File Manager. Although if it was disc quota that wouldn't have helped.
