The site search on http://forum.cmsmadesimple.org finds most of the results in the dev site rather than the forum site. Has this been changed on purpose as it now renders searching the forum pretty much useless. To solve issues many times I have found answers by searching the forum. This is extremely important I am sure for many users.
The site search before using Google search engine was I seem to remember much better as the depth of the search is now limited to a maximum of 10 pages.
If there needs to be separate search for the dev site then surely that cannot be too difficult to set up.
This does not show off too well CMSMS and also if users cannot help themselves by finding answers in the forum then devs have to spend more of their time answering posts.
Please advise as this is very important.
What happened to the site search on this site???

I confirm this behaviour. The site search on http://forum.cmsmadesimple.org finds most of the results in the dev site rather than the forum site.

Hi Rolf
I am talking about the site search box at the top right of the page. It has been like this for some time and gradually finding less and less results in the Forum.

Re: What happened to the site search on this site???
The search box at the top right of the screen uses google site search. We have used that functionality for a number of years now.
Google site search searches all *.cmsmadesimple.org domains. And it should. We probably won't be changing that.
The reason that the forge (dev.cmsmadesimple.org) and the docs site (docs.cmsmadesimple.org) and (apidoc.cmsmadesimple.org) are now outnumbering forum searches is probably simple: Fresher, and better organized content. Infact, isn't that what google is supposed to do?
if you want to search the forum, there is a search functionality specifically for that. Similarly there is search functionality for the forge, and for the docs site only. Those search utilities don't use google.

Re: What happened to the site search on this site???
I used to type my questions direct in Google, for example:
'cmsms nms send email'
That gave many results from the forum.
Now it gives nearly nothing from the forum.
It seems Google is blocking the forum in their index...

To search the forum I always use the phpbb search link (top left: Home FAQ Search Members User Control Panel).
I also select "Display results as: Topics" because it shows results in a format that's much easier to digest (for me).

Re: What happened to the site search on this site???
what about searching google with:
If you can create a keyword search in you browser (Firefox, Chrome, IE https://www.google.nl/search?q=browser+keyword+search) you could search quite fast from the address bar.
E.g.
Of course, to be usefull, Google should have indexed those relevant forum pages.
Code: Select all
nms send email site:forum.cmsmadesimple.org
E.g.
Code: Select all
forum nms send email

Try it.
In google it gives 2/3 results, in this forum 344.
Seems to me google blocks this forum.
But I shall use the search-option in this forum from now on.
