Global file manager system for CMSMS

Post by gocreative »

Are there any plans to replace/improve File Manager?

One of my major gripes with CMS Made Simple is this module. Not only is it quite cumbersome to use (e.g. with individual file uploads rather than multiple), but there's no way for other modules to "hook into" it.

I would like to see a modal option which any other module can use. This would replace the need for GBFilePicker, Image Manager, and various other upload modules.

As it stands, end users have to learn multiple upload systems, depending on which modules are installed. It falls under the DRY (Don't Repeat Yourself) principle: module developers shouldn't need to integrate their own upload method when the CMS should have a robust solution built into the core.

After all, CMSMS is designed to be SIMPLE, and this is one area where it is definitely not -- for developers AND users.

Just curious as to whether there are any plans for this, as I do think it should be a priority.

Yeah. And the drag and drop uploader has never worked for me either.

The FileManager module's upload tab allows uploading multiple files, and large files (just tested).

The OneEleven admin theme's drop zone allows uploading multiple files, and large files (tested this too).

MicroTiny, TinyMCE, the dropdown in OneEleven's dropzone and the FileManager all use and obey the users 'current working directory'.

As long as you're using a decent browser (tested with Firefox and Chrome) and not using IE it works great.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. The actual upload functionality works fine, but I want to see this functionality accessible by other modules in a modal dialog, rather than those modules integrating various other upload interfaces/methods.

Yes, no complaints there.

I'll have to re-test, but I had tried it many times previously in Firefox and Chrome and neither worked.

On another note, I just tested uploading multiple files in File Manager, and when I hit "Cancel" before they'd completed, I'm redirected to this URL: "http://www.mastercms.com.au/admin/moduleinterface.php and the only text on screen is this: [{"name":"","size":0,"type":"","error":4}]

There also isn't any kind of success message or confirmation after uploads are completed.

I would agree with this. 1.11 + OneEleven made significant improvements. But a CMS Made Simple way for all modules to handle files would be fantastic.

Please add this to a bugreport in the Forge as a reminder for us.
