URL Settings in config.php?

Are there any consequences to changing the values of $config['uploads_url'] and $config['image_uploads_url'] to /uploads and /uploads/images, respectively, instead of having them contain complete urls including the protocol and host parts? I.e. will anything break? I haven't noticed anything so far but I'd thought I'd ask.
