Restrict back end users to part of site!

Post by malcolmp »

Hi, I've spent some considerable time recently reviewing open source & commercial CMS's for a couple of projects I have in hand.  Of those I've looked at CMSMS stands out for being capable, understandable and easy to use.  The only siginificant problem from my perspective concerns the management of back-end users, and from looking back through the forum posts it seems that others have remarked on aspects of this already.

I would personally like to see a more hierarchical structure for user management, but at the very least it would be really useful to be able to restrict authors and editors to particular areas of a site such as to a particular menu level or below, and not as at present allowing pages to be placed anywhere within the site's menu structure.  I know it may be said that there are user training issues here, but nonetheless the design makes it too easy (IMHO) for a user to upset a site's menu structure, and from replies to earlier posts it seems there is no way to prevent this at present.

I note that the roadmap for v1.00 indicates that changes are proposed to how additional editors are selected for pages, but not any changes to prevent be-users putting a page wherever they like in the menu, so could I add my voice to others asking for this also to be implemented?

Hope I dont come across as too critical - CMSMS is a fine piece of work and congratulations are due to all involved.
