Footer won't stay down

Post by dorlow »

I made some major changes to our website. I'm not sure why the changes broke our footer though. Here's the code for Layout 1...

{process_pagedata}
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

{stylesheet}
{* This is how all the stylesheets attached to this template are linked to *}

{cms_selflink dir="start" rellink=1}

<!--[if lte IE 6]>

<__body>
</__html>

Like I put in my comments, if I uncomment the footer, the footer shows up in the top menu bar of the website.

Right now, even with it commented, the top bar is blue but the footer copyright info is appearing up there. I think most people just don't notice it.

If you want to see the website, it's www.lakeviewschools.net. If you look close at the top blue bar, you'll see the copyright info.

Where is the site, where is the stylesheet?

Well, the website is making me a liar. The footer text isn't showing up in the top bar anymore (with the footer commented out.) I just changed the comments a few minutes ago seeing if I could get the footer to work right, but I commented it again. I guess this time, the comments must be working better because it's not showing up in the top bar anymore. But still when I uncomment it, the footer shows up towards the top of the page.

Also, while I'm on the topic of the overall layout not right, does anyone know how to add margins to the side of the website so horizontally it doesn't just go off into forever land? I'd like definite edges so it looks more like a piece of paper the website is on.

/* hide everything else! */
div#header,
div#header h1 a,
div.breadcrumbs,
div#search,
div#footer,
div#menu_vert,
div#news,
div.right49,
div.left49,
div#sidebar {
display: none !important;
}

This is in one of the stylesheets, this is in another :

div#footer {
clear: both; /* keep footer below content and menu */
color: #5a5954;
background-color: #eae9e2; /* same bg color as in header */
border-top:2px solid #dad9d0;
}

Why worry about colours if it is hidden?

So just create two new spreadsheets with the code you made and attach it to the main template?

Most likely the biggest problem you have its that there are way too many position: calls, they are very rarely needed especially for simple things...

Re: Footer won't stay down

Ok, I tried creating a stylesheet called footer and then putting the code in it

div#footer {
clear: both; /* keep footer below content and menu */
color: #5a5954;
background-color: #eae9e2; /* same bg color as in header */
border-top:2px solid #dad9d0;
}

attached the stylesheet to my template and then uncommented the code I had in it and it didn't work. Messed up just the same. I'm sure I'm just reading it wrong. I don't quite understand what stylesheets do.

I didn't design this website. But the person that did passed away so there's really no one to go to except me and this forum.
