Edits not making it to the front end

Post by clm314159 »

I am using the latest version of CMS-MS v.1.10.3 on a IIS server and I am having some difficulties getting the edited pages to update when viewing the actual site. The updates are shown in the editing window in the admin section. So I know the db is receiving the edits.

This has been a problem since I first installed the site but has gotten worse over time (about 4 weeks). It really seemed to get bad after I input a really long page. The page was long enough to be truncated when I submitted it in the admin panel. At this point I have convinced the owner of the site to break up their pages into smaller parts, so I hope that won't happen again.

However the updating problem still remains. At first I would just wait for the edits to be updated and that might take 30 min or maybe an hour. After the problem with the long page, I had to close all window of the browser I was using, clear the cookies, and re-log in because I was getting error 500 in both the admin panel and in the front of the site. After that I still had to FTP in and delete the cashe files before I could regain total control over the sight. Also, I have had to copy page contents in to new pages and delete the old pages because they would not update at all. These pages might have been the ones that were in existence before the long page problem. I can not be sure of this, as I am not the only person editing the site.

Is there something I can do to fix this myself or is this an issue that I should report to the bug tracker?

Thanks for your help

IIS servers are strange, but it sounds like you have a time zone problem, set the "server" time zone in config.php...

I have checked the config file and it said that the time zone was America/New York. Since I am in Pittsburgh, it seems to be set correctly. There still seems to be a problem and it seems to get worse when a large amount of edits are made at one time. I have started to disable the cashing check box when I make edits to a page. I don't know if this works yet but I will let you know once I come to a decision on this tactic's efficacy.

This does seem to be an IIS problem. I am running this version of CMS-MS on Linux servers without any problem.

Also, as for the page size limit, I have convinced the client to make their pages smaller but some pages still grow. I was working on one page today and it was fine when I started but when I added a few paragraphs of text to it and saved it, all the content in it vanished. I thought that maybe I had made a mistake at first but after restoring the page from a back up and re-adding the extra content, the same thing happened. Is this a problem with IIS or is there a limit to page size in CMS-MS?

The server time zone depends on where the server is located, there is a DB change to allow long pages, search forum it has been explained how to fix it...
