Disable Site Down for Maintenance on Particular Pages?

Post by CMSmonkey »

Hi Everyone,
Is there anyway to have a site under maintenance, but have a certain page viewable at the same time? For example, I am currently working on redesigning a particular site and it is currently under maintenance. I would like one particular page still viewable if I give someone a direct link to it.

Thank you in advance for your response.

How about copying that particular page's content and pasting it in the site down page?
Would that be enough solution for you?

Hi,
Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, that solution won't work. I want any visitor to come to the site and see the "site down" message. However, for the page I am referring to, I want to be able to provide a direct link so that anyone referred to it can access it. Basically it is a payment form page using FormBuilder.

My other alternative is just to create the entire form outside of CMSMS but it would be a bit tedious.

Probably not the answer to your question, but I always do any redesign needed on test pages not accessible to other users on new templates, which will be applied, when ready, to any existent pages that will still be in use and just change the few pages that will be dropped (btw changing pages and links may not be a good move if you need to maintain search engines indexes). I can then just apply the new templates at the same time in a few clicks. My two cents, for what's worth... :)

Can't you just ask that persons IP address and add it to the exception list? Or else make an admin account for that person with no rights at all.

What I typically do when working on a new site is I create an index.html file with a "coming soon" message and put it next to the index.php file. I leave the maintenance mode off. Anyone coming to the new domain will see the coming soon but anyone with a link (or bookmark) to a specific page will see the real site. That way I can give the client a link to see how the site is progressing without worrying about which ip they will be using.
