Volunteer Fire Department using CMS Made Simple

Post by pixelita »

We finally launched the newly redesigned web site of Sheldon Community Fire and Rescue serving the Houston, Texas area. (Sheldon has been busy helping battle the tri-county wild fires that have been plagueing South Central Texas recently.)

http://www.sheldonfd.org

I thought it was going to be death by committee, it took over a year to get this site off the ground. But finally, here it is.

We were asked to redesign the web site of local volunteer fire department Sheldon Community Fire and Rescue. Most fire department web sites leave a lot to be desired and not a lot of fire department web masters seem to be able to resist animated flames as a design element. We wanted elegant, tasteful and somewhat patriotic and I believe we delivered. The fire department personnel will be managing the content so we wanted to give them a solid content management system with an easy to use interface. CMS Made Simple to the rescue once more!

Module(s) Used: FrontEndUsers: 1.15.1; CGExtensions: 1.26.3; CGCalendar: 1.7.4; CGSimpleSmarty: 1.4.8; EventsListing: 1.4; FormBuilder: 0.7; Bookmarks: 2.0.1; Play: 1.0.3; CMSForms: 0.0.20; LinkMgr: 1.5.1; CGFeedMaker: 1.0.11; FrontEndUsers: 1.15.1; CustomContent: 1.7.3; SelfRegistration: 1.2.6; CGGoogleMaps: 2.1.4; Gallery: 1.4.4; Weather: 1.0; ShareItPop: 0.1.1; jQuery: 1.1.3; JQueryTools: 1.0.10.

And some of this could NOT have taken place without the assistance of the folks on this support board. If I don't say it enough, then I'll say it again: THANK YOU!!!

Awesome design, especially the logo! ;D

It may have taken you a lot of time, but it is worth it. Very nice and clean website, with all the information one would want to have about a fire department (I guess)

Couple of little things:
  • The maps for the stations are not working, the first one gives me an smarty error (string(73) "Smarty error: unable to read resource: "module_file_tpl:jQuery;error.tpl""). The second and third show only the marker (the maps are zoomed in to the max)
  • The contact form is bit distorted by the 'send me a copy' checkbox
  • You have couple of HTML validation errors, caused by two scripts outside of the header and missing type declaration (on that same contact page), you might want to check the other pages too.
Good work!
Make your community a better place!

Great work pixelita :D

My only suggestion would be using a player for the videos - for me on IE9 the video links offer a download. I have used AVPlayer for this quite successfully. Or just put them on youtube - and benefit from the extra exposure that brings.

Have been there myself ;)
