Special characters as HTML entities instead of UTF-8

Hello,

I am trying to do some SEO on my site. My site checking software does not like that my HTML code contains raw UTF-8 characters, mainly German umlauts, instead of HTML entities.

This problem seems to occur mainly in menu items and news entries. Is there a way to convert these characters automatically on the fly when the page is generated?
