Modification to Self Registration

I need a programmer to modify the current self registration to allow the administrator to approve the user before they can access certain pages.

Just put your unapproved members into a 'pending' group and setup your page logic appropriately.

I must have not explained myself well...

I run an association with paid membership. I need members to be able to access this information, while those who are no longer members to not be able to see this information.

Right now, when someone registers, they can see everything automatically. I cannot approve them before they can see the page.

What I need the registration to do is:
1. Have a person tell me their preferred user name, password and company
2. I need to be notified by email that someone has registered
3. I need to verify that the person is a paid member of the association
4. I need to grant them access to the members-only information online.

As calguy suggested:

- create two groups - "pending" and "approved".
- have the content only visible to the "approved" group
- when someone registers put them into the "pending" group by default
- once you've verified whatever you need to, put them in the "approved" group

Can someone please give me some instructions on how to do this?

I have made two groups. Membership-Pending and Membership-Approved. What is the next step?
