Problem with multiple content blocks [SOLVED]

I hope somebody can help me...I'm at my wits end!

I have multiple content blocks for a page in my site. Everything's fine on the admin side and I'm able to add content to each block HOWEVER when viewing the page it shows {content block="callout"}

I've used multiple blocks many times before and have NEVER come across anything like this...please help!

It suggests to me that either this lies within {literal}{/literal} tags or that it has been applied in wysiwyg mode. Although I'm not sure the latter counts.

It IS within 'literals!'

That makes perfect sense and I'm kicking myself that it's so simple.
