Cannot install CGextenstions

Hello!
Trying to install CGextenstions and every time I do, after the upload (via FTP or through the CMS admin panel with XML file) I get the following error on the next page that loads and I lose my graphic interface for the whole CMS admin panel.

Error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function cmsms() in /mnt/r0111/d19/s06/b02fded3/www/WarrentonGolfCourse/modules/CGExtensions/CGExtensions.module.php on line 88

I have tried lower versions of the module and the same issue occurs. This module is needed so I can run/install the Newsletter module.

Any help is much appreciated!

CMS version: 1.6.9
PHP version 5.2.9
Let me know if you need more info on what I am running...

For cmsms version 1.6.x I'm affraid you are stuck with an old CGE version like 1.17.9 or something closeby

Thanks! I was able to install CGextensions but now when I install Newsletter made simple, I'm having the same exact issue. Any ideas?
