Module permissions error

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

Module permissions error

Post by lucia22 »

I have successfully installed CMS Made Simple on a few other domains on our dedicated server without a problem.

I installed the latest 1.9.2 version on domain and set up in normal way via SSH, setting permissions to modules etc using SSH. The install test showed that PHP Safe mode was turned on, so I got this turned off, support at my hosting did this for me and restarted. When I go into Modules I get the following error:

The modules folder (and/or the uploads folder) is not writable, if you would like to install modules by uploading an XML file you need ensure that these folders have full read/write/execute permissions (chmod 777). Safe mode may also be in effect. (Troubleshooting)

The modules folder and uploads are definitely set to 777, have checked using Coda and also in File Manager of Plesk. I checked forums but couldn't find a solutions so I tried going back to 1.82, went through install and checksum etc and all fine except when I go into Module Manager. Don't know what else to try, is there another way of installing modules via ftp as I need the Gallery Module working.

I tried going into Global Settings > Advanced > File Creation Mask and I get the following:
Results

Owner: apache
Permissions:
Owner: Read,Write
Group: Read
Other: Read

Is this correct? Any other ideas please?

Re: Module permissions error

I have just found a post which explains how to upload module by ftp, so I tried that with the gallery module, I set the permissions of the folder to 777, it shows in my modules list, but when I try to install it I get the following error:

Error Message for Gallery Module
No permission to write in directory. This could be caused by file permissions and ownership. Safe mode may also be in effect.

I then tried the clicking the Change Permissions link in Module manager, but get an error saying some permissions could not be changed.

I have done some more searching in this forum and found one to a dutch post which I translated and followed through, changing the values in the config.php and the 022 to 000, but still doesn't work????

Could be a file ownership issue? Did you perhaps encounter this topic in your search? http://forum.cmsmadesimple.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=8505
