Google says my site is hacked

Post by dmaireroa »

I just found out from Google that my site has been hacked. Now I can't say for sure if CMSMS is the issue here but judging by the comments made, doing an upgrade every time can be a hassle when life can be busy at most times.

I using 1.8.2 and forgotten about the upgrade. Now CMSMS 1.9.2 is out, not sure where to go from here will need to weigh it up. I build sites for a living and was thinking about going back to normal PHP. Not sure why I needed a CMS but I think back then, I wanted to try it out and see how it works.

Thanks

I'd say it's a big leap to assume CMSMS is the issue.

So far i've built about 11 sites using CMSMS and the only time a site had security issues it was cos the client was sloppy and had some malware on his system.

Start by checking the system of everyone with access to the site.

Guys, my comment wasn't referring to an assumption. I was trying find out why my website Rankings has dropped over the last 5 months. Now Google told me it was a hack but not a malware since this evident using Google webmaster tool. Somewhere down the line on Google forum, I eventually said "I am using CMSMS". So they convinced me with a possible hack which is normal for most 3rd party apps. I needed to weight it up, and not take the risk if CMSMS is the cause of it which is unproven, and the very reason why I was searching on the forum for any particular hack thread. It seems like you haven't done that yourself which is why unaware of it.

By the way, it is my own personal site. I found 6,000 urls error using Google webmaster tool. Now, I have a choice to persevere, continue with CMSMS and upgrade, or use normal PHP and accept any future dramas since I'm not using any 3rd app.

I did a fresh install version 1.9.2, and it seems to be OK. But once I see the results that I am looking in my Google webmaster tools, then I am very convinced that CMSMS has nothing to do with these hacks. Only time will tell.

Peace!!

I'm still not understanding how Google Webmaster Tools can tell you that you were hacked.... I guess you might need to explain what was done to your website.

I have tried to read this about 10 times, but I really can't figure out what you are trying to say.

What is actually the problem? Is your website acting strange? Is their weird code in your html source that should not be there?

You talk about 6000 url errors in GoogleWebmaster, what kind of errors? Are these pages which are not part of the content of your website, or are some actual pages from your website marked as non-existing?
..and the very reason why I was searching on the forum for any particular hack thread. It seems like you haven't done that yourself which is why unaware of it.
And did you find any topics about hacking? Why not share it with us?

Post the Google Webmaster log here or PM it to me privately. It is not too hard to backup content and reinstall CMSMS to get rid of a hack.

Yes is the right, I did reinstall CMSMS and that was before I noticed the hack about 2 months. Will have to wait and see how the results go. Otherwise, I will have to reinstall again ;D >:( :'( lol

So, somebody tells you you're hacked and that's it? Where is the 'proof'?

Again: Why do you think you are hacked? Is there strange code in your HTML source, or is your problem that you lost some pagelinks in google and went down in the list when you search for certain criteria?

You talk about 6000 url errors in GoogleWebmaster, what kind of errors? Are these pages which are not part of the content of your website, or are some actual pages from your website marked as non-existing?

Also, if you reinstall CMSMS and the problem still persist, changes are likely it has nothing to do with CMSMS but being uncarefull with FTP passwords. I would suggest changing all passwords (FTP, SQL database and CMSMS admin)

Hi dmaireroa,

Have you read the wiki "how to" How_to_Secure_CMSMS_system_-_Small_Guide?
