I screwed up...bad alignment issue

Post by ffemtrfc1 »

Well,

I posted a "Live scrolling ticker html code" (which got deleted due to not working properly) into my "top menu style sheet" under now my header picture and menu underneath aren't centered to the center of the screen like before the code was posted and a huge chunk of wallpaper is missing to the right and our "News" posts are out of alignment underneath.

You can check out our fire depts site here, I'm the admin and several people are counting on me...

www.rescuefirecompany.org

Its possible that I could have deleted something...But I was being EXTRA careful...At least I thought so...

Any help is highly appreciated

I do not understand completeley

HTML Code does not belong into stylesheets but templates, is HTML, not CSS

try this:

the definition for the background-image is not defined completely, the position of the image is lacking

in the stylesheet, which is associated with your template you find this:

Code: Select all

   background: url(uploads/images/top-header_1.JPG) no-repeat;
change this to

Code: Select all

   background: url(uploads/images/top-header_1.JPG) no-repeat center;
Good luck, Hans Dampf

Can you check this code too just to make sure? I got the picture centered, now I need the links underneath to be centered again like I once had it...Also, missing wall paper on 2 sides..Check this code too please.

Thank you

Hi.
You screwed up, that's for sure.

Your div#sidebar has a width of 24% but your div#main a margin-left of 250px. Means: sidebar is fliud but main has a fixed distance to the left, and where the sidebar ends, the posts flip to the left to the 250px. That's why your News post aren't aligned underneath.

For example give the sidebar a fixed width like 240px or for the #main a margin-left of 24%.

div#main {

  margin-left: 250px; /* this will give room for sidebar to be on the left side, make sure this space is bigger than sidebar width */
  margin-right: 260px:
  width: 24%;

}

div#sidebar {
  float: left;
  width: 240px;    /* sidebar width, if you change this please also change #main margins */
  display: inline;  /* FIX ie doublemargin bug */
  margin-left: 0;
  min-height: 600px;
  border-right: solid 1px #ccc;
}

/* if sidebar doesnt include menu but content add class="hascontent" */
div#sidebar.hascontent {
  padding: 0 1%;
  width: 20%;  /* make width smaller if there's padding, or it will get too wide for the floated divs in IE */
}

Those are the areas that are responsible for this. Either in percent or fixed in pixels.
Set both sidebars to 240px to test it.
Or...
#main to margin-left:24%.

To center your menu you have to give the surrounding container a margin:0 auto; or text-align:center; which centers everything inside. margin is better.

@ffemtrfc1

as I see it, the image in the header is centered now, did you clear your browser's cache?

May I suggest not to use such a "strong" background-image as http://www.rescuefirecompany.org/upload ... ames_2.jpg? The text is barely readable and the repeating of the image is too bad (scroll down and see )

as you seem to have so big problems and are not savy in CSS, try to start anew with the unmodified template

you don't have a backup`?

I am sure when you prepared the website you took an existing theme / template and did not write it yourself

so I am sure as well that you have that template at hand, can take it from a backup, from your local harddrive or download it from the themes-section here

which template/Theme did you use?
