Tourism website - Sun Country on the Murray

Post by Lukevdp »

Sun Country on the Murray is a tourism organisation here in Victoria, Australia.

The site uses

- CGBlog for the blog section
- Calendar for the Calendar section. We wrote a script to make it import data from a child tourism assocation website daily (and soon will import from more child tourism association websites)
- It grabs weather data and displays it using CMSSimplePie
- It uses Album for the photo gallery
- It uses Products for the specials
- We used the MovedPages module as well
- It uses 4 different templates

The site is http://www.suncountryonthemurray.com.au

Just curious, how did you integrate the video in the header?

And one suggestion - maybe default the video header to hidden on the subpages, so the relevant content kinda gets pushed up into view without needing to scroll.

The video is done in flash. Fair point about the header being large. We do have the hidden header button, and we decided that that was probably good enough for people that don't want to scroll. We also really wanted people to view the video, because it's such a great overview of the area, so that was another factor in the decision.

Could you put the video buttons side by side? Very nice, I like the colours, but perhaps some more colour in the rest of the page rather than grey/black?

Of course being flash, it does not work on the iPhone or iPad...

i really like it and i voted it for design of the year award :-).

two questions: why do you use calendar (instead of CGCalendar) and Albums (instead of Gallery)? Both have no active developer.

@nicmare thank you =). Since making this site I'm using the modules you mentioned, which I agree are much nicer. The reason I used them at the time was just because I didn't know about the others yet.

@Russ - Video buttons could go side by side or one on top of the other. I don't think it makes a big difference. Fair point about the lack of colour in the bottom half. It was a lot easier to do what we wanted to do with flash than with any other technology. I agree it's dieing though and find myself using it less and less
