My magic disappearing pages

Post by sioux »

Using the latest version of CMSMS on a linux server we are having intermittent faults on most of the latest installations.

Tahe this site for instance http://www.allinfoabouttarot.com ,  I bet you can see it can't you? I can't. I get a 'page cannot be found' message.

Try it for yourselves and do what I just did. Go to the site (which is under construction), click on some links and eventually you'll come to a page that is a 404, then hit the back button, and every page you were on previously is 'page not found.'

What causes that and most importantly how do I fix it?

On another site with the same problem, I deleted the library and admin folders and reinstalled them but it made no difference and while I'm happy to do any reinstalling necessary to fix the problem, I don't want to do anything until I know what's causing it in the first place.

Help!!

I've clicked around like 40 times and didn't have any problem.  Not sure what's going on there.

i cliked a bunch and it finally happened, and no i couldn't get the last pages to get anything but 404, when i went to 'Go' , in Firefox,
i was able to get the page to render, i was just wondering what all the JS were for, did they have anything to do with 404?

The js's are to serve banners/ads centrally, and they are exactly the same on a whole range of other sites that work okay.

That's the problem. This site isn't any different to another 100 or so that have been setup, but just a few of the most recent installations are having this disappearing problem.

The same thing happens within the admin panel. Add three or four pages without any problems, then all of a sudden the fck editor disappears, hit the back button and the admin page displays incorrectly. Log out and try to log back in and your password returns an 'incorrect password' error message. A couple of hours later you can get back in again with the same password.

I just wondered if it was a server problem, installation problem or we're infected with something?!

My best guess is that it's an overworked server.  But you'd really have to do some monitoring to find out if that's the case or not.  It just seems to random to be a software problem.

Aha - you're right I forgot that one - it's a small table at the top of the page with the intro text in it!

Just for your info - it appears that there WAS a background process running on the server using up a huge amount of Ram. the support guys 'killed' it and everything seems okay again - touch wood!
