clean install 1.7.1 - checksum issues

This is an FIY and at this stage does not seem to be a problem.

First time to use a CMS. Downloaded from this site. Installed full set of files locally onto PC (with XAAMP) following instructions. Downloaded the Checksum dat and it matched. Install successful.

Installed via FTP (Filezilla 3.3.2.1) to webhost but when I tried to checksum, every single file and folder failed. Downloaded, unpacked and reinstalled everything again, but again checksum failed. Disabled my firewall (as dat file was local on my PC) and it still failed completely.
Nevertheless, I went ahead and completed the installation. And it appears to be successful.

Not sure if this is an issue that just affected me.

(I am a newbie, but have some html and css experience and have previously installed a php/mysql BBS)

From my experience, comes up when server is screwed up. Do the following. Download the .tar file. Upload the .tar file to your server without extracting it. Go to the file manager on your hosting account, and use it to uncompress the compressed file on the server. Avoids having ftp program screw with the transfer. Also verify that ftp program is transferring in binary mode.
