Is CMSMS for the non-techie?

Talk about writing modules and plugins for CMS Made Simple, or about specific core functionality. This board is for PHP programmers that are contributing to CMSMS not for site developers

Is CMSMS for the non-techie?

Post by Sunnyside »

I'm basically a non-techie but have done a little for our church using a CMS package just for churches.  I have a small business (I do garage makeovers) developed by another individual using FrontPage about 8 yrs ago.  I would like to convert this using a CMS type software package so I can update it myself.  I have two questions:
1) Being a non-techie, is CMSMS more than I should attempt to handle myself?
2) On the templates with a picture in the header, can I change that picture, e.g. a recent website shows a motorcycle .... can that be changed to show a different picture?

Thank you.

Yes it can be done.
But since you are asking this question i recommend you hire someone to build site for you, the same person could also show how to change things on site. Or it could be in your wish list 'be able easily to change header picture on any page'.

The official line of this is:

CMSMS is a package built by professionals, for professionals to build sites with for non-techies to use.  We expect that the professionals using this software have a minimum set of knowledge about web development, including things such as adding/creating databases, finding and reading error logs, dealing with file permission problems etc.

While everybody is free to use CMSMS, we don't put alot of support effort into people that obviously don't have these skills.  We expect people to post well researched, clearly explained questions with enough technical information for us to be able to help without having to ask for basic information, much less helping somebody step-by-step through discovering this information.

So if you're a non web professional, while you're free to use CMSMS and we're confident it would do what you wanted, if you don't have the skills necessary to setup a site, you should probably hire somebody to do the conversion for you, and set it up to allow you to add/edit content.
