[Solved] Upgrade from 1.4.x to 1.5+

I had a client with a really old install of CMS 1.02. So today I attempted to upgrade straight to 1.7.
So I dl'd and copied the full package of 1.7 over the existing files, and went to the upgrade page. Selected my language, and it took me to the checksum page where all I could choose was continue. (There is no skip button) And when I clicked continue it went right back to the language page.

I assumed I could not upgrade direct to 1.7 from such an old version. So I wiped all the files, loaded my backup of the 1.02 version then followed the upgrade process, and just moved up a version at a time.

I was able to move from 1.02 to 1.1, then 1.2 etc... all the way to 1.4 with CMSMS working perfectly. I'd check the site and admin area after every upgrade. But when I get to version 1.5 I get the exact same problem I got when trying to move to version 1.7.

Did something change that is preventing me from going to version 1.5 or greater?

My server is Windows 2008 64bit, 2GB Ram, PHP 5.2.6 and  mysql 5.0.51.
I am attempting the upgrade via a temp URL since I haven't pointed the DNS to this server yet. (I did make sure everything is correctly pointing to my temp url, and server directory in the config.php file) And using the temp url worked fine upgrading from 1.02 to 1.4

Anyone have any idea's?

I love upgrading old versions (search!). You can PM me FTP login. Or just the database, I can test upgrade XAMPP.

That's a suggestion: upgrade on your computer (faster that way). Get database and config.php upgraded. Go up to 1.6.7 on your computer. If server meets specs, install brand new 1.7 on production server, and import those upgraded database, config.php.

If you respond to email/messenger very fast, I can do this quickly for you. If you check it every other sunday, then maybe not.

That's a suggestion: upgrade on your computer (faster that way). Get database and config.php upgraded. Go up to 1.6.7 on your computer. If server meets specs, install brand new 1.7 on production server, and import those upgraded database, config.php.
You haven't even done this yet??

You said that you have gone up to 1.4 something. What you need to do is read release notes. It is too time consuming to go step by step in most cases.

No database or config.php changes were made I think (but you must research) when going from 1.4 to 1.5.4. So it's pointless to go thru those steps.

I have installed 1.5.4 and imported that database. Website came up right away. (uncheck two boxes on step 5).

1.6 upgrade is where database and config are updated. This is an overwrite.

If your server meets the spec, do the same thing to bring it up to 1.7

With an upgrade from such an old version:

every module must be researched
every release note must be read
some things will not work (menus not working so far on this website).


However, since this is only like a 34 page website, I suggest you import the pages by hand into a brand new 1.7 website.

Don't be so rude to tell people to re-do their website... it's not needed... all that's needed is some research and understanding of a) how your website works... and b) what's changed in new CMS versions or modules to stop it from working.

Wasn't trying to! Like I said, I saw things broken which would take longer to fix than to import 35 pages. Much, much longer.

How long would it take him to download all diff packages, install them, etc???
