Cannot access site - 404 error after install [Solved]

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

Cannot access site - 404 error after install [Solved]

Post by Mury »

Hi Folks, I did a new install. All went well. When I get to click go to admin at the end of install, the passord is said to be invalid. This has happened twice with fresh installs.  If you try to access the site - after the install - all you get is a 404 site not found.
Ive just installed another cmsms on the same server - different domain and its perfect - so its not a server fault.
HELP please

Do you have an .htaccess file? Does a test PHP file work in the same directory? Are there index.htm or html files?

Hi - this looks like a normal install - Ive done plenty.  I can Cpanel it, yes htaccess is there (blank) index.php.  No odd files, all attribs look right. Like I said - I just did an install on the SAME server for another domain - its working fine.  The checksum passed, and all installed correctly - EXCEPT when at the end of install - the admin login come with invalid passord/user message. Then if you try to open the site it fails. If I kill the index.php(cmsms) the site opens.
The only thing different is that I was using a restored database (with a new user etc) but that was previously using an earlier version of CMSMS (but that should not matter- I think).
As I understand it - the 404 means that there is a redirect from cmsms to something that dont exist or has no rights. All rights seem OK - hostgator checked that. I am tempted to try ANOTHER instal with a fresh database and then try to import the data - ugh & grrrrr

Geez, I WAS wondering whether this was pointing to an existing database. Why didn't you say so? That is a completely different matter. First of all, the passwords are whatever stored in the database, not what you specified during install. Secondly, after you get that password, empty cache, login into admin, and select another page as default.

Hi replytomk3, thanks - I was wondering about stored pwords as well. That makes sense & will try that.  Travelling today by plane in Europe hahahah. But am happy that I have a solution - worse case will use fresh db abd import. Thanks a lot
