[solved] Issues moving website

Post by jchelpdeskwv »

Hello all,
I had a blank page issue with one computer, so I decided to move my website to another one.   I followed the instructions in http://wiki.cmsmadesimple.org/index.php ... New_Server.   The issue is that while some things appear on the transfered site (like all news articles), all my pages from the previous website are gone.   The generic How CMSMS pages appear instead of my website pages.

Here is what I have done:
- made sure that config.php database and other settings were changed to new server
- copied over all my folders from the previous website

Here is my basic setup:
CMSMS 1.7
XAMPP 1.7.1
MySQL 5.1.37
PHP 5.3

Thanks!

Put install folder in and run install, at STEP 5 UNCHECK CREATE TABLES AND INSTALL DEFAULT CONTENT this will clear up any path problems you may have...

When moving servers etc. one thing that happens is DB path is not the same or/and DB name is different, this can lead to pointing to wrong or none existent DB leaving pages blank etc...

"all my pages from the previous website are gone"

I hope that it was a backup database that you overwrote (destroyed) on step 5.

I had a similar strange situation. I re-installed a fresh copy of 1.6.6. Copied over all the non-stock modules from the other hosting account, cleared out the database and restored it from my backup file. I was getting a mix of "stock" CMS content and my site's content. It turned out that the cache had the stock stuff in it.. Once I deleted the cache and the compiled templates that were generated when I tested the stock install, my content appeared.

First step in moving a site is to clear the cache...

Thank you all for the suggestions.

I had not destroyed the old database, so I was able to go back and get a full backup.  Not sure why it did not copy all the information on the first tries.

Dr. CSS, I wish I could have cleared the cache.  The old implementation would not allow me to access anything in the admin section, except menus. Meaning the pages came out empty below the menu line, making it hard to clear the cache or do anything else.

Now back to work.  Thanks everyone!

If you have access to the files, you can clear the cache manually.
