[SOLVED] can't save content type external link - No URL given!

I've taken an existing 1.6.6 cmsms and applied the necessary steps to make it MLE.  Everything is working great except external links.  

When I fill out the english side and hit submit/apply, I get a 'No URL given!' error.  I'm guessing it's because I haven't added it to the other language yet.

When I fill out the english side and try to change to the other language, the page goes back to the login.

Has anyone gotten this to successfully work?  Has anyone even tried?

So for testing purposes I've just installed the full mle on a test space and the external links work.  But they still don't work on the regular cmsms to mle cmsms.  I unfortunately can't start with a blank full mle and add all the content again.  Can anyone suggest what files to compare that might have this difference between cmsms-mle-1.6.6-full and diff-mle-vs-cmsms-1.6.6?

Oh I forced it to work!  I went into the db and added a url_en and url_otherLanguage for each external link.  The pre-mle external links now work and new ones can be added.

i AM NOT SURE i UNDERSTAND HOW YOU SOLVED THIS. i AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM.
