module manager suggestion and question

Talk about writing modules and plugins for CMS Made Simple, or about specific core functionality. This board is for PHP programmers that are contributing to CMSMS not for site developers

module manager suggestion and question

Post by jd447 »

hi there,

i hope i'm in the right topic... :)

suggestions:
- it would be really nice to have a date of creation and a date of update next to each module.
- module ratings

i mean, would be great to have a sort of classification, to ease the choice between to equivalent modules. (like between the mediaplayer and the flvplayer)

question:
- how are the modules selected? it's seems like some are not listed in the module manager.

Just a few quick comments/answers.

1. There will be some changes to Module Manager for CMSMS 2.0 but I am not sure if it will include the Dates or not. We will have to see

2. Rating the modules has been discussed (to death) before. The general consensus is this: Yes, it would be nice. But we do not have the time to handle it and ensure it is fair. There are far to many varying situations that could cause the ratings to be misleading or completely incorrect. If you would like check out some of the discussions we've had in the past it will show some of the variables that we would have to consider.

3. I cannot remember exactly how the selection is done. It is a SOAP feed off of the dev forge, but I think the module has to be properly added or authorized to show up in the feed.

Note: if you do have Feature requests like #1 it is best to add them to the Feature Request for the core or specific module (if available) in the Forge at http://dev.cmsmadesimple.org.
If all else fails, use a bigger hammer.

The module manager list projects that have release .XML files. There is also a filter on CMSms version, so if you are running version 1.5.4 it won't list project versions that need 1.6.x
