advise on gallery / photo-album

Post by Gregor »

Hi there,

I managed to install CMSMS. I would like to use it to keep a blog for my sailingboat, with pictures stories, experiences etc. By now I'm looking for a photo album module were I can add test unde (or next) to a picture. I tried to use the news module, however the size of the pictures (200150 pix) makes it a slow news module. So I tink that that is not the way to go. Although it might be nice to click to the photoalbum via the news module. Anyone who has any suggestion and / or examples to display?

Thanks in advance,
G

To get the picture, have you got an example of how it looks?

i would take spgm. it's simple, stable and even has some interesting plugins. http://spgm.sourceforge.net/?lg=us&id=modules.
and it reads a folder hierarchy and creates a gallery hierarchie from it.

download it here: http://spgm.sourceforge.net/

examples here: http://spgm.sourceforge.net/?lg=us&id=demos

Hi,

Thanks so far.

I had a look at Singapore image gallery as well. I think that this would fit my requirements, however I read something about problems with the integration with the latest version of CMSMS. Is that correct? Any idea when these problems are solved?

Gregor,

I´m currently running singapore 0.9.11 with CMSMS 0.12 without problems.

Pio,

Thanks for your info and link.

By now I've installed Singapore on the same webserver as I have installed cmsms. I can create a gallery, but their are no thumbnails created. Before getting cmsms to see singapore as a module, I would like to solve this problem. Thumbnail is shown as a box (the size of a thumbnail), with a link to the photo. By clicking that link, the photo will be shown. For creating thumbnails, I'm using Imagemagick (or rather I'd like to use IM). Do you have any suggestionsto get this thing going?

Did you configure Singapore to use IM?
It uses GD by default.
What is your web server/hosting configuration?
Does Singapore work if you install it on its own, i.e. not as a module of CMSMS?
This would be my approch. Install Singapore first on its own, solve issues with thumbnails if any, then try including in CMSMS.

I know that there are some solutions on "thumbnails not shown" with IM in the Singapore user forums.
Look at www.sgal.org (Singapore homepage).

I conffigured singapore to use IM (changed singapore.ini). So far I run it on it's own, so no integration with cmsms. Even in the standalone version, the thumbnails are not shown. Pictures are shown in singapore.

I have the latest version of wamp installed on windows XP Prof.

Gregor,
I´ve no experience with IM, and after studying the Singapore forums myself for that issue,
I´d try out GD. The behaviour of IM seems to be somewhat unpredictable ;-)
I´ve seen your post in the forum and I suggest you try GD (gd2 in particular).
You should not need to configure anything with XAMPP with respect to GD. It comes with GD ready to use. No need to download and try installing GD.
I´m using XAMPP for Linux with Singapore 0.9.11, but I used XAMPP Windows with GD and Singapore before without problems.

Do you have the possibility to do a fresh install of XAMPP and Singapore, e.g. in a virtual machine?

Did you get any write error / access error messages when following the Singapore installation?

Hi There,

With all your help I managed to install Singapore wirh GD2. I also installed it as a module in cmsms.

To get the thing going, what should be the next step? I found this piece of code {cms_module module="galleryS" } What to do with it? Place it under a menu botton? Is there a way to link to a certain picture inside the gallery when I'm in the news module?

Hello, I already used the above mentioned SPGM, has anyone an idea how to implement this into CMSMS?

I don't know if you saw/understood my question: Has anyone managed to get "simple picture gallary maker" (http://spgm.sourceforge.net) going in CMSMS?
I would like to use that gallery, because I already know it, is there anyone who knows how to implement this? Maybe PA_Simon, as you mentioned it?
