Problem with Image Gallery Tag

Post by shr0pshire »

Hello.

I am using 0.12.1 "Savusavu" and I am having troubles with the "ImageGallery" tag.  I use the tag {ImageGallery picFolder="uploads/images/yourfolder/"} and configure it to the folder for pictures I am using.  when I view the site though it only shows links to the full size pictures with captions.  I don't get any thumbnails.  Is the tag supposed to generate thumbnails for preivew of the full size image, or did I miss read something?

Also, if the tag is supposed to create thumbnails do you have any idea what I am doing wrong?

Thank you for your help in advance.

how did the pic's get there, check the folder if you don't see any thing that says  thumb_thenameofyourpic.whatever you might want to try and look at them with the image manager,  i uploaded some straight to my site ,, FTP ,, then at some point i looked at them with the I.M. next time i looked in the folder a bunch of thumbnails were generated cool eh.
oh btw i've never used the I.G.,, which one you using?

I am using: About the ImageGallery tag

Author: Russ Baldwin (but see below.)

Website: www.shoesforindustry.net

Version: 0.3 Beta

Date: 2006-02-22

It was included in the default installation

I will look at the image manager and see if I can create the thumbs manually, but I am a little disappointed, because I think with this default tag they were supposed to be created automatically.

Thank you ever so much for your advice!  People like you make this a great community!

Hi shr0pshire, the ImageGallery was meant to be used with the image manager, which will automatically create the thumbnails for you. However, as you have probably discovered, it only allows you to transfer one image at a time.

Alternatives, as mentioned by maksbud, include creating the thumbnails manually on your local PC and then uploading them via some FTP program.

Let me know if you need anymore help.

i'm sorry if i gave the wrong impression what i meant was that i had uploaded some images to my site by FTP, large ones, then i needed to remember the name of 1 so i opened the image manager, found the name, closed it, the next time i looked there's thumbnails of all the pic's that i had uploaded, without doing anything.

Sorry maksbud, my mis-understanding. Not sure what is happening here, I thought it only created the thumbnails on upload, not when you viewed them. This is probably for someone to help with and not me. Just tried it on my but my FTP access is down - so no luck. Sorry.

Anybody else have any ideas?

I apologize if I come across as a total idiot,, but how exactly do i get Image Gallery to work? As noted in previous posts, I have a page loaded with Image Gallery, and the file names show up as links, but no thumbs (On Firefox it shows file names, on Safari, it shows file names and missing image link icons)

Could someone walk me thru this please? All I want to do is upload folders of images via my FTP prog (Fetch), and then point the Gallery prog towards that folder and get them to load up with thumbnails.

Also, when I try to upload files thru Image manager, I keep getting some "WARNING:

if you upload folders of img. to the 'uploads/images/' folder with FTP then go to your site/admin
Content » Image Manager clik on the folder you uploaded and view the img. you don't have to clik them or anything just open the folder and Image Manager will make thumbnails for you, go back to your FTP client and look you will see them, img name w/ _thumb on the end of the name.
when you point to the folder it's  '/uploads/images/nameoffolder/'

Thanks Mark, but still a "no go"... when I open up Image Manager, open the folder, it starts to show up as "Image icons", almost like a broken image link icon, then turns into a link (standard blue link) name of the file.
That's just in the "Image Manager" panel... on the page with the Image Manager tag, there are links named according to file, plus the file name under it

I must be overlooking  something ... but I don't know what. The images are all .jpgs or .gifs, they're all RGB mode.. I can edit them if I want in Image Manager (I don't, but I could) IS there something in the set up that I'm missing? Does it have anything to do with Upload Module?

Thanks again for any help you can give me

Another prob realting to my Image Gallery probs:
I can't upload or create folders thru Image Gallery.... I keep getting this( "Path" substitutes my actual path to where the site is)
Warning: move_uploaded_file(/path/uploads/images/motorsports//winelabel1205-1.jpg): failed to open stream: Permission denied in //path/admin/imagefiles.php on line 83

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at //path/admin/imagefiles.php:83) in //path/lib/classes/class.admintheme.inc.php on line 176

Would this have anything to do with my thumbnail prob? Also, how do I fix the above prob?

Thanks again

Could this be a permissions problem on the Uploads or the images folder? Try setting the permissions to read/write or chmod 777? Just a thought?

That seemed to fix it Russ, Thanks!
However, will that give me any security issues that I should be concerned with? It was originally CHMOD 755 which I would think would be fine, but 777 fixed it

Thanks again

Well it does leave your uploads directory open to abuse, but it is an uploads directory after all. Uploads manager can only update certain files and only gives you access to certain subdirectories. The rest I guess is down to your use of sftp and strong passwords. I may be wrong however as I'm not a sys admin.
