file permissions - modules not writable

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

file permissions - modules not writable

Post by Overlander »

hi
I'm at the first install page, all is sweet except for file permissions re modules. Checked files and modules have been uploaded

How do I now get file permissions for modules?

Hi Overlander,

This error means that the modules folder is not writeable.  To change the permissions on this folder use an ftp program to access the file structure of your website (I use Filezilla) and then find the modules folder.

Right click on it.

Click on File Attributes

set the group and file permissions to allow for writing (There are more secure ways to do this, but I'll leave that for now)

That's it, when you go through the install you shouldn't have that problem anymore.

If you are working in Linux and you can ssh into the server then you can use "chmod 777 /path_to_cmsms/modules"

I experince the same problem to those modules installed after the main installation of CMSMS? I have tryid through a FTP program to set the permissions to 777, but everytime I try I get a message telling me that I am not allowed to do so. I dont have any problems with other folders or files, only the module folders and files I have manually installed prior to the main installation... Any help please?!?!?
