Compress Javascript and CSS for faster backend loading

Has anyone mentioned that you have to load nearly 250KB javascript files using the backend?
Has anyone mentioned to make heavy use of PNG sprites and compress the CSS files?
Is there a need of making an faster loading NCleanGray theme?
