[SOLVED] Pretty URLs in CMSMS 1.6.5

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

[SOLVED] Pretty URLs in CMSMS 1.6.5

Post by jocando »

Hello

I'm trying to follow the new instructions for getting pretty URLs:
http://wiki.cmsmadesimple.org/index.php/User_Handbook/Installation/Optional_Settings

I made changes to the config.php file as instructed.  And uploaded the sample .htaccess file which reads:
# To deny PHPs

 order deny,allow
 deny from all

All that happened was I got a 404 error message (Do not have permission to access this page).  I'm sorry, I know it's suddenly in the 'requirements' but I don't understand what I'm trying to do here. And I don't understand the instructions given for how to debug either.

Can anyone help? Is there no simple way to do this anymore?

Thanks
Jo

Hi Jocando

The sample .htaccess file is placed in the /doc/ folder of the cmsms setup.
It's called htaccess.txt
Copy it into the root of the site and rename it to .htaccess

Yippee, it works!

I didn't see the text file - there was a very obvious .htaccess file so I thought that was it.  No wonder it didn't make sense!  Now I see the correct file I can see what it's doing.

Many thanks

Everybody can contribute to the wiki with his/her forum account to improve my "Make a .htaccess rewriting ruleset from the provided sample /doc/htaccess.txt" wording ;-)

Pierre or anyone

Do you know or have a example ini i.e. IIS equivalent of .htaccess file as I am having to try and get this working on IIS6 as {REQUEST_URI} does not work on it. The sever is using IIRF v1.2.16 (Ionic's ISAPI Rewriting Filter).

@applejack : sorry, but other issue => other thread. I don't know IIS. Search the forum with Google for IIS.
I'm closing this thread.
