[solved] Photo album problem

Post by nbc »

I have created a dozen photo albums without much trouble, but this afternoon I have a problem. I created an album and went to load a set of pictures in a subdirectory of uploads/images. I think I hit the save button too quickly - only about half the pictures have thumbnails. Now I can't seem to figure out how to force the system to take all the pictures and regenerate the thumbnails  -- any suggestions would be helpful...

thanks,

nbc

Delete your album or at least pictures that dont have thumbnails. To prepare hundrets of pictures and thumbnails create folder on your PC containing all pictures. To create thumbnails use IrfanView (File > Batch Conversion/Rename;  use modyfiers "$N" and "#"). Upload pictures and thumbnails to server. In Picture Album panel navigate to folder and "Select all" pictures.

You can go back to the album and reselect your thumbs, under image is a thumb selector image click that and it will take you back to the folder with the thumbs/images in it...

NOTE: when making Albums always always wait until you see all the little images fill in as that is the thumbs being created and it can take a while sometimes...

I can't seem to select the thumbnail - not sure why. I manually deleted all the pictures in the album. Then I went to the upload/foo directory where the pictures were stored and deleted all the files named 'thumb_xxx.jpg'. That leaves about 15 .jpg files in the directory.

I then did an 'add pictures' in the album. It selects all the pictures, but only created thumbnails for 5 of them. There are 5 thumb_xxx.jpg files in the uploads/foo directory now. How can I force it to create the rest of the thumbnails??

I'm afraid I didn't quite understand the first reply here - for all my other albums, I've simply selected the directory where the .jpg files are located and it created the thumbnails on the fly. In this case, I think I screwed up by hitting the save button before the thumbnails got generated, but now I can't seem to force them to be created...

Thanks for the help so far - but I could use a bit more...

What is the size of the image you uploaded?  I have a client can upload 1mb sized images, but the server can make thumbs out of them do to php timeout or what have you... but if they upload a 950 kb file the system will make the thumb... that is easy to test by uploading a very small file... like 50kb... Hope that helps

Cheers

That is a possibility... Most of my pictures seem to be between 400k and about 1.5Mb and I have never had a problem, but this particular set was taken by someone at my dojo and the files are much larger - as much as 5Mb for some of them. I will see if I can cut them down a bit and see if that helps - I'll let you know if that solves the problem. Thanks!

And that seems to have been the problem. I was able to resize the photos from 3.5Mb down to 30-40kb and still have pictures that are reasonable for viewing on the web... And I got all the thumbnails.

Thanks very much for the help!
