Trying to install CMS for first time to fresh install of Linux

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

Trying to install CMS for first time to fresh install of Linux

Post by benedict »

Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum and trying to get my first cms working on a new server.

I have downloaded the latest version cmsmadesimple 1.5.4 full.tar.gz and copied it to the root directory. I am extremely new to linux and would appreciate step by step. It's a fresh (linux) install and I've tried various guide's I've found on google but I am at a loss. My objective is to to learn about Linux and CMS and have a personal blog setup.

Can I please get your advice on first steps or foundations that I should perform first i.e. setup mysql database(s). And how to run the CMS install.

Thanks,

Ben

Best places to start

http://wiki.cmsmadesimple.org/index.php ... stallation
http://wiki.cmsmadesimple.org/index.php ... _Tutorials

If any steps give you trouble or errors, reply back

EDIT: by the way you might want to try the newly released 1.6

Hi,
I got to step 7 (of the handbook installation) but couldn't go any further. The files appear to be in the directory I created as per document.. root/cmsmadesimple.

Step 7 says to goto http://www.yoursite.com/cmsmadesimple-1.6-full.tar but this is all installed on a local server, so I'm a bit confused about 'yoursite'. Should I setup up Apache or similar first and if so where can I get help for that?

You are running linux at home and are trying to install it there? and you untarred/unzipped the package? (I assume if you could get to step 7 you did)

try

localhost/cmsmadesimple-1.6-full.tar
or
127.0.0.1/cmsmadesimple-1.6-full.tar

(if the directory is actually called cmsmadesimple-1.6-full.tar, if not replace)

I'm not sure CMSms is the right product for a "blog setup".
If you want to learn about both Linux and CMSms I suggest you give the ongoing LiveCD effort a try.
Have fun learning
