Post by pamelina »

Hello,

Due to release of cmsMS 1.6 earlier today I want to ask if it is possible to import template, css, menu css from cmsMS 1.5.4 to cmsMS 1.6? If YES, is there some lack of functionality, security breach, other ... ?
Thanks

Should run with no problems, but always, test it first. (do a backup, test it locally or a testing server)

Why should you..

Make a back-up of you database, and upload all files from 1.6 over 1.5.4.

Your templates are run from the database, not the files on the server.

Because things happen. Issues uploading, issues during upgrade on the server causes the database to corrupt, etc. Backups and local testing allow you to make sure that it will go off without a hitch.

Viebig is right on track with this... always make backups and test locally prior. If you don't you risk corrupting your site so bad you cannot recover or you risk major downtime. If these aren't issues for you... go for it. But you have no idea how many people come on here and in the IRC in a panic because their upgrade had issues (generally to fault of their own or their host) and they cannot recover because they didn't backup their site or do local tests prior to the upgrade.
If all else fails, use a bigger hammer.
